2009
I know I have said this before but it is worth
repeating; this has been a terrible year for all animal rescue groups
and Glastonbury and Wells CP have suffered along with every one else.
All year it has been a case of too many cats needing new
homes and too few homes becoming available. Consequently many really
nice homeable cats are spending many long months in a pen, the more
difficult cats are just not getting any offers of homes and our waiting
list never seems to get any shorter. If it seems I am painting a black
picture, well that is how it is.
I would like to assure our fosterers and active
volunteers that their work this year may have been harder than in
previous years but has never been more worthwhile and essential. Without
you many more cats would face an uncertain future.
I would also like to thank those members who, even in
the current financial climate have continued to send us donations. We
couldn’t keep going without your help.
We all hope that 2010 will be a better year but know
also that the stream of cats needing our help will continue. I am sure
if we all pull together we can meet the challenge.
I hope that you, your families and animals all have a
Happy Christmas and a Peaceful New Year,

CAPTION COMPETITION
 Janet
Woodward sent me this picture of one of her cats, Duke. She thought it
would make a good caption competition. So come along people, put your
thinking caps on. I don’t know what it will be yet but there will be a
prize for the winner.

CHRISTMAS FAIR 2009
We held our Christmas Fair on Saturday November 21st.
The weather forecast was grim, but this didn’t stop our loyal supporters
from turning out to help the cats.
Takings this year stand at £4800. This is much the same
as last year, proving that the Credit Crunch has not affected the
generosity of our supporters.
We would like to thank all those who turned up on Friday
night to help carry boxes from our cars and to set up the stalls. By
9.00pm the mountain of cardboard boxes had been transformed into an
array of attractively laid out stalls, just begging for customers. We
are so pleased that you all heeded our requests not to send odd pieces
of china and glasses. This meant there was plenty of room to display the
more saleable items to their best advantage.
Every one remarked on the quality of the new CP goods
that Janet Woodward purchases every year. There must have been something
for every taste on her tables.
Thank you also to the many helpers who turned out to
serve on the stalls and in the refreshment area although I personally
wish that one of the helpers had left his camera behind. He knows who I
mean. For me the bonus was that every one of them phoned me to offer
their services. I did not have to make one single phone call this year.
Brilliant!
Our fairs are always a real team effort. Every one wants
to do their bit for the cats and we thank you all for caring.

CALENDARS, DIARIES & CHRISTMAS CATALOGUE
If you didn’t buy your diary or calendar at the
Christmas fair you can still order it from Janet Woodward (Tel 01749
880545, email janet@downhead.f9.co.uk). The diary costs £3, the cat
calendar £4, and the kitten calendar £3.50. This is slightly cheaper
than the price shown in the Christmas catalogue.
Thank you to those who have ordered from the catalogue
and raised money for our branch. Orders can be placed until the end of
March 2010, so if you want a copy of the CP Christmas catalogue, please
let Janet know.
UNWANTED CHRISTMAS PRESENTS
If you receive unwanted Christmas presents please pass
them on to us if you think they’re suitable to sell or for the Tombola
stall. As well as needing prizes at the two fairs we run Tombola stalls
at several of our summer stalls and normally need about 50 prizes for
each of these. If we don’t have Tombola we run a children’s lucky dip
so, if you have anything suitable for a 50p children’s present, please
pass this on too.
